CME Associates History

CME Associates was founded by two nurse Clinical Specialists and has been in existence in the Southern California region since 1985. We are dedicated to the improvement of patient care delivery through the process of education. Our sole purpose is to provide superior education to our nurse and medical colleagues. We accomplish our mission through the provision of maintaining the highest quality post- graduate nursing and medical education. We incorporate comprehensive adult learning principles in every staff development course we present. Our aim is to achieve educational excellence by encouraging a conceptual approach to curriculum and development of critical thinking skill.

Our educational offerings are multi disciplinary. CME Associates is accredited to provide continuing education by the Board of Registered Nurses, the Board of Dental Examiners, the California Emergency Medical Services Agency and the National Associations of EMTs as a PHTLS Training Center. CME is one of the largest free-standing American Heart Association approved training center offering comprehensive Emergence Cardiac Care (ECC) Programs in Western States Affiliate. The educational offerings of CME Associates centers around, but are not limited to, adult and pediatric ECC programs. CME Associates is a "free standing" organization, not affiliated with any hospital or healthcare corporation.  Our programs are innovative and our curriculum dynamic to meet the current trends in healthcare.

Our faculty is composed of highly trained and respected nurses, paramedics and physicians possessing vast professional experience and multidisciplinary backgrounds in Emergency Care, Critical Care, Pre-hospital Care, Nursing Education, Nursing Management and Administration. Our instructional staff have developed expertise in course content through extensive clinical background and frequent teaching of curriculum.

CME ASSOCIATES, as an accredited provider of continuing medical education, is dedicated to the mission of improving the quality of healthcare delivery in Southern California. CME ASSOCIATES builds professional excellence and leadership by developing mutual trust, respect and empowerment of medical professionals in an enlightened atmosphere.

GOALS: The Goal of CME Associates' continuing medical education programs is to provide scientifically accurate, relevant, high quality post-gradate medical and nursing education. Our continuing education activities center around, but are not limited to, adult and pediatric emergency cardiac care (ECC) programs.

TARGET AUDIENCE: We provide quality education and continuously adapt to changes in the educational needs of physicians, nurses, paramedics and allied health personnel.

TYPE OF ACTIVITIES: Continuing education activities range from one-half day to three-day courses, which cover emergency cardiovascular care issues. Educational methods include direct (live & multimedia) instruction and demonstration, hand-on practice sessions, independent study, and a full range of assessments (written & direct observation of clinical practice in skills stations).

EXPECTATION: We expect that our continuing medical education activities will result in an improvement in the knowledge base and skill of healthcare professionals, which will ultimately result in an improvement in clinical patient care. We measure the impact of our continuing medical education activities by analyzing student performance on posttest assessments and their responses on post course evaluations, including measurement of intent to change.

CME Associates Policies & Procedures

Registration Policy

CME Associates does not accept walk-in registration on the day of the course commencement. Course registration can take place on-line, by phone, fax or US mail. Regardless of the method, full payment must be made to complete registration. No partial payment is accepted, nor do we hold credit cards to "reserve a seat". On-line registration closes (3) days prior to the course date. CME Associates will make every effort possible to have American Heart Association course completion cards and appropriate continuing education certificates available at the course completion for those students registering (3) days in advance of the course. If AHA completion cards and continuing education certificates are not available at the course completion, they will be mailed to the address provided during registration.

Registration Procedure

For your convenience, you may register using any of the methods below:

  • Online: From any of the courses links, you may register and pay securely online using your credit card up to three days prior to the start of the course. Once successfully registered and payment process completed, you will receive an email with additional information, as well as a downloadable receipt for your records.
  • Phone: Students may register with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover over the phone by calling (714) 998-2208. Your credit card will be run on the day you call in to register. **We do not hold your credit card to reserve a seat or for you to pay on the day of the course.**

**Before registration, you must submit a copy of both sides of the current card for the course in which you are registering.  If you are taking any of the HeartCode course online courses, a copy of the eLearning Certificate must be submitted.  You may send these in by scanning and emailing them to: Rosalee Becerra, Administrative Manager, Training Center Coordinator, rosalee@CMEeducation.com

Cancellation Policy

CME Associates reserves the right to cancel the course within five days of the first class session due to insufficient enrollment. Full refunds will be given to pre-registrants.

Participants may cancel up to 24 hours prior to commencement. Cancellations must be submitted via email to rosalee@CMEeducation.com.  Individuals cancelling in writing prior to 24 hours of course commencement qualify for either a 90% refund (books not applicable) within 3 weeks or ONE course transfer to a class being held within 60 days. Students cancelling within 24 hours of course start will be allowed ONE course transfer to a class being held within 60 days.  NO refunds will be given to transferees. Once the course begins, no refunds will be given. Individuals not attending the complete program (for whatever cause) without prior notification to CME Associates' office cannot be given special consideration.

Retest Policy

The American Heart Association will allow participants who successfully pass all but one component of the testing stations to retest the failed component within a 30 day period of time. Participants who do not pass two or more of the evaluation stations do not successfully complete the course, and may repeat the course on designated days within a 30-day period of time. Upon completion of the retesting, a completion card and appropriate continuing education credit will be awarded. It is the policy of CME Associates to allow one course retest at NO CHARGE. Individuals who do not successfully pass a retesting process will be required to pay a registration fee if another future course is desired.

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (National Association of EMTs)

PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is the world’s premier prehospital trauma education developed in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons to promote critical thinking in addressing multi-system trauma and provide the latest evidence-based treatment practices.

In addition to the standard PHTLS course, there are other specialty courses such as:
