Course Description

ACLS & PALS Challenge Update

What is it?

Update by Challenge is a fast-paced course in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support designed for the individual who does not require a classroom review of AHA guidelines prior to practical and written evaluations. CME Challenge provides an opportunity for ACLS/PALS providers to revalidate their knowledge and skills in a convenient and individualized setting.

We schedule appointments every 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the location.  You can expect to spend 60-90 minutes for your appointment time.  This may be shorter or longer depending on how many disciplines you are testing for and how much time it takes you to complete your written exams.

Who can participate?

Participants must:

  1. Have a current AHA ACLS and/or PALS Provider card (depending on which discipline is being renewed) and must have been an approved provider for a minimum of four years.
  2. Be concurrently employed in a critical or emergency care setting with frequent exposure to pre-arrest patients.
  3. Be able to apply American Heart Association ACLS/PALS Guidelines during practical and written evaluation stations at course commencement.
When is CME Challenge?

CME Challenge is available by special appointment at our Southern California campus. An American Heart Association ACLS/PALS Regional or Training Center Faculty member must approve the candidate for the course, and will provide individualized instruction and evaluation. The study materials and pretests are available on-line and must be completed prior to attendance. The ACLS or PALS provider challenge will take approximately 90 minutes, and a course completion card will be issued upon successful completion of the entire course. This course is designed for the experienced provider only, and retesting will not be provided. Continuing Education Units are not available for this course.
